Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • All co-authors have read and agree with all editorial policies and the Privacy Statement of Plant Ecology and Evolution.
  • The manuscript has not been published, in whole or in part, in any other media. The manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere (submitted to a journal, series, as part of a book, etc.).

  • All co-authors have contributed to the manuscript, have approved the submitted version, and are aware of the submission.

  • The manuscript and the illustrations are original, or authors have taken all the necessary steps to avoid breach of copyright. Authors understand that they will be held personally and financially responsible for any failure to comply with this condition. This guarantees that we can publish the manuscript without infringing anyone's copyright, and correctly label any material that cannot be distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License.

  • All persons/institutions/sources of support have been acknowledged, whether they were involved in the production of the results/data presented in the manuscript, or in writing/formatting the manuscript.

  • In case new material has been collected for the purpose of the study, all the necessary permits have been obtained prior to collecting. The study was undertaken in compliance with all legal obligations regarding access and benefit sharing of the biological collections used in this manuscript.

  • For taxonomic manuscripts, the type material of new taxa names has been deposited in a public herbarium or public natural history collection where it can be consulted by other researchers.

  • All manuscript files are conform with the required format as outlined in the Author Guidelines.

  • The text and figure/table captions adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements as outlined in the Author Guidelines. Whenever available, the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is provided for each bibliographic reference.

  • At least two potential reviewers are provided in the cover letter, together with their affiliation and email address.

  • Any potential conflict of interest is mentioned in the cover letter, especially any conflict of interest with an associate editor or member of the editorial board (see Editorial Team for a list of names).
